Pavlos Carvalho has been an prizewinner in international music competitions in England, Italy and including first prizes in Koblenz, Germany and in the Taneev competition, Russia. He has performed as a solo and chamber musician in venues such as the Purcell room, Royal Albert Hall, Cadogan Hall and the Teatro dal Verme, Milan and recorded for the BBC. As a soloist he has performed in festivals around the country and abroad, including an annual performance of the 6 Bach Suites, (which he is currently recording for Willohayne records and Naxos) and the complete Beethoven sonatas in the Brighton Festival. Pavlos has performed regularly as a soloist with the Southern Pro Musica under the direction of Jonathan Willcocks. He performed the Elgar cello concerto with the Royal Philharmonic and the Dvorak concerto with the Covent Garden Chamber Orchestra with whom he has been invited again to play the Schumann concerto in November, 2020. Pavlos is one of the founding members of the chamber music group Ensemble Reza.
A big part of Pavlos' musical life also involves outreach and education working for groups such as Live Music Now, Pied Piper, In Harmony and Music for Life. He has given masterclasses and workshops for the London cello society and in October 2018 was appointed the new director of the cello course and festival for Pro Corda.
Pavlos also has a deep interest in world music and as such is the director of the Rebetiko Carnival, a festival and charity dedicated to the music of Greece and Asia minor as well as outreach and education programmes.
